Welcome to the Pixie Gem Shop Crystal Guide! This list is in alphabetical order and includes information about the geology and metaphysical meanings of all of the crystals that are used in my jewelry. When you buy a piece of jewelry from me, I also include information cards for each of the crystals used in that piece.

 

Agate

Agate is the name given to numerous varieties of banded Chalcedony, a mineral of the Quartz family. Agate comes in almost every single color of the rainbow. Metaphysically, Agate has a lower intensity and vibrates to a slower frequency than other stones but is highly regarded as a stabilizing and strengthening influence. It is excellent for balancing emotional, physical and intellectual energy. Agate is also useful as a protection amulet when traveling.

Amazonite

Amazonite is named after the Amazon River due to its rich, watery blue hues. Metaphysically, the Amazonite crystal is an excellent manifestation tool. Amazonite empowers one to search the self and discover your own truths and integrity. It is also used as a good luck stone for games of chance, competitions, and luck in any financial venture.

Amber

With origins traced back to prehistoric pine forests, amber is not just a gemstone but a window into our planet's distant past. It is, in fact, fossilized tree resin that dates back approximately 50 million years. These ancient pine trees likely secreted the sap, which eventually formed amber, as a defense against fungal and insect invasions. Intriguingly, amber occasionally encapsulates organic matter such as insects, leaves, and even mammalian hair. Amber, symbolizing the sun's energy, is believed to absorb negativity and release bright, soothing energy, effectively acting as a mental sunny day.

Amethyst

Amethyst is a purple variety of Quartz that has become one of the most popular and well-known crystals. Metaphysically, Amethyst helps to quiet one’s mind and maintain mental clarity and physical energy. As a stone of spirituality, Amethyst helps to deepen your connection to self. It is also said that Amethyst can aid in breaking addictions.

Ametrine

Ametrine is a combination of amethyst and citrine, which are both a variety of quartz. It is a macrocrystalline variety of quartz that occurs rarely in nature. Ametrine is said to be the complete balance of the properties of amethyst and citrine. As a stone of both balance and connection, ametrine is believed to relieve tension, bring serenity and stimulate creativity, as well as balance mental stability and self-confidence. 

Angelite

Angelite is a form of anhydrite, which is a crystal made of calcium sulfate. The crystals are formed in places where gypsum stones had previously been in contact with water, which then evaporates, leaving anhydrite crystals behind. The stone is formed from celestite (another form of gypsum) that has been compressed for many millions of years. Angelite is thought to improve spirituality and spiritual awareness, with a peaceful energy that is calming and soothing. Many believe it promotes communication and self-express while dispelling fear, anger and anxiety.

Apatite

Apatite is not a single mineral but a series of minerals that make up the apatite group. The apatite group consists of fluorapatite, chlorapatite, and hydroxylapatite. Stones can be found in shades of blue to green, yellow, brown, pink, and violet. It is said that wearing apatite will enhance focus, clarity for concentration, intellect, acceptance and unconditional love.

Aquamarine

Aquamarine is the name used for gem-quality specimens of the mineral beryl within a color range of greenish blue to blue. Historically, aquamarine was believed to be the treasure of mermaids. Sailors used the stone as a talisman to bring good luck on the open waters. Metaphysically, aquamarine is believed to be a stone of courage and helping people overcome any anxieties associated with communication.

Aura Quartz

Aura Quartz is partly man-made and partly natural. By electro statistically bonding precious metals from Earth onto the surface of natural clear Quartz clusters or points, a new, captivating color layer is created. Metaphysically, these gemstones promote healing from emotional trauma that stems from anger and pain. It is known to increase communication and creativity.

Black Onyx

Black Onyx is a solid black colored variety of Onyx. Metaphysically, Onyx is a stone that offers its bearer immensely powerful vibrations of protection, willpower, focus and strength. By carrying or wearing the Onyx daily, you will be able to shield your aura and prevent negative energies from attaching themselves to you.

Bloodstone

Bloodstone, also known as Heliotrope or Piedra Del Sol, is an opaque cryptocrystalline Quartz and member of the Chalcedony family. Metaphysically, Bloodstone activates our inner strength, willpower, and courage that has been masked by fear. This crystal is a purifier of our negative energies and aids to convert these thoughts and feelings into positive ones.

Blue Agate

Similar to other varieties of Agate stones, Blue Agate is also a Chalcedony that belongs to the quartz family of minerals. The vibration of this stone is also one of tranquility, grace and peace. It is thought to harmonize the body’s energies, relax nerves, release anxiety, and get rid of negative energy.

Botswana Agate

Botswana Agate, also commonly known as “Banded Agate”, is a type of Agate only found in Botswana that has exceptional bandings of several different colors. Metaphysically, Botswana Agate is the highest vibrational agate we know of and offers up intense energy. Botswana Agate is the key to opening your mind up to an abundance of knowledge just waiting to be grounded and used towards one's life path.

Bronzite

Bronzite belongs to the mineral group known as pyroxene, and so is a silicate compound of magnesium. An iron-bearing variety of enstatite, bronzite has a metallic luster when polished. According to metaphysical beliefs, bronzite is used to ground us. It promotes clarity and certainty of thinking and actions. Bronzite jewelry has been worn to help alleviate nervous energy that is generated when we are placed in new situations.

Carnelian

A glassy, translucent stone, Carnelian is an orange-colored variety of Chalcedony, a mineral of the Quartz family. Known as an artist's stone, the Carnelian crystal is a warm, vibrant stone that boosts confidence and the power of true expression. The stone empowers self-confidence in all aspects of life. It is the ideal stone for bringing motivation and determination to your endeavors.

Citrine

Citrine is a transparent, yellow variety of Quartz, ranging in color from pale to golden yellow, honey, or almost brown.  Metaphysically, natural Citrine is a premier stone of manifestation, imagination, and personal will.  Its frequency awakens creativity and imagination and sustains the process of transforming dreams and wishes into tangible form.  It is a stone of abundance and manifestation, attracting wealth and prosperity, success, and all things good. It also encourages generosity and sharing good fortune.

Chalcedony

A Chalcedony is a form of cryptocrystalline quartz.  Chalcedony may range from opaque to transparent depending on the kind and structure of the stone. Metaphysically, Chalcedony brings the mind, body, and spirit into alignment and harmony. It is a protective stone that absorbs negative vibrations and energy.  It is a very nurturing stone that promotes and enhances goodwill and stability within groups of people. It encourages empathy and understanding.

Charoite

Charoite was formed when a syenite of the Murunskii Massif impacted into some chemically complex limestone deposits. It is a complex mix of materials, giving it a fibrous or spotted appearance. Sometimes called a "stone of transformation," charoite is thought to aid the transformation of negative emotions into positive ones. It is believed to encourage inner strength, assertiveness, creativity and self-esteem.

Chrysoprase

Chrysoprase is a silicon dioxide mineral that belongs to the chalcedony group of quartz stone. Metaphysically, Chrysoprase symbolizes joy, wisdom, and new beginnings.  It teaches us to live heart-centered; to both give and receive love in all its many forms.  Chrysoprase is an excellent gemstone for enhancing emotional well-being. It encourages tolerance, compassion, self-development, personality, and overall happiness.

Coral

Coral has been called the "garden of the sea" because it was once believed to be a plant. Instead, coral belongs to a small, but important group of organic gemstones. Coral is formed through a biological process rather than being a mineral with a crystalline structure like most colored stones. Coral jewelry has been found in ancient Egyptian and prehistoric European burials and was especially popular during the Victorian age. It is a symbol of modesty, wisdom, happiness and immortality.

Crazy Lace Agate

Crazy Lace Agate is a variety of chalcedony, which is a microcrystalline form of quartz that's infused with iron and aluminum and is often brightly colored and complexly patterned. This stone is found exclusively within the area known as Chihuahua, in Northern Mexico. Metaphysically, Lace Agate is said to be a stone of joy, happiness, and optimism. It is also said to be a stone of creativity and inspiration.

Dalmatian Jasper

Dalmatian Jasper, also known as Dalmatian Stone, isn’t actually a jasper. It is an igneous microcrystalline quartz with a mixture of other minerals creating the speckled look. Metaphysically, it has a childlike, playful vibration that may help you in releasing the feeling of hurt and anger. The stone will allow you to attach with your inner child as well as release resentment, bitterness and feelings of limitation in order to fully immerse yourself in good facets of life.

Emerald

Emerald gemstones are a variety of beryl, which is the same mineral grouping as aquamarine. Genuine emeralds may include inclusions--referred to as "jardin," a French word that means garden--which can cloud the stone. These inclusions are not considered flaws and indicate an emerald is genuine, not created in a lab. Emeralds are believed to be encouraging, calming and balancing because of their color. They are also thought to promote creativity and restore optimistic hope in dreams and visions.

Emerald Fuschite

Fuchsite is a variety of Muscovite, given its color by the amount of chromium.  Emerald is a variety of beryl. Metaphysically, Emerald Fuchsite is a healer's stone that promotes good health, well-being, cleansing & rejuvenation, and will bring balance throughout your life. The stone stimulates your powers of compassion, forgiveness and love. It is a stone of happiness, promise, and good luck while promoting healing and restoration in the process.

Fancy Jasper

Jasper gemstones are found all over the world, but fancy jasper has large deposits in Africa and Brazil. Jasper, in all its forms, is considered a powerful healing stone. Jasper is regarded as a gemstone that gives a sense of well-being, intensifying that feeling. Also a stone of gentleness and relaxation, fancy jasper's rich colors blend and complement each other so well for a complete sense of wholeness.

Fire/Hematoid Quartz

Fire Quartz is the name given to Quartz crystals included with Hematite. The color can range from light pink to a very dark rust depending on the amount of iron in the deposits. The main Fire Quartz meaning is a representation of the fire that lives inside all of us. Fire quartz is a stone of courage, assisting you with the will to take action. It inspires confidence and strength, especially when you need to face difficult situations or make important decisions.

Flower Agate

Flower Agate is a type of Agate with opaque Chalcedony inclusions that resemble tiny floral formations. Metaphysically, Flower Agate is known for growth and manifestation, and it also symbolizes the critical journey of self-discovery and actualization. It is a crystal that will ignite power, passion, and the purpose within you to create a drive that allows you to work towards your dreams or goals and live your life to the fullest.

Fluorite

Fluorite is a calcium fluoride mineral and belongs to the halide mineral family. This stone develops in various colors, including purple, green, yellow, black, clear, pink, and rainbow hues. Metaphysically, Fluorite's remarkable capacity to wave off any lingering negative energy is one of its most powerful characteristics. It also encourages you to not limit your capabilities, think outside the box, and embrace your creative side.

Garnet

The Garnet stone is a group of silica minerals.  This stone is mostly found in red color but sometimes it can also be found in the colors purple, green, black, yellow, pink, or brown. Garnet is associated with the spirit of the fire sign and is believed to promote the energy of love and creativity along with power, vitality, and sensuality. It can also increase the feeling of joy and happiness in our lives. Garnet balances energy, bringing serenity or passion as appropriate, and can inspire love.

Goldstone

Goldstone is a man-made glass with copper flecks suspended in it. Goldstone is usually made up of Gypsum and Feldspar and often comes in a reddish-brown color. It is said that Medieval monks in Italy accidentally discovered the process for making Goldstone when attempting to forge the alchemist’s legendary philosopher’s stone. Goldstone is believed to be the stone of ambition and aspiration. It fills you with energy, courage, and optimism so that you can achieve all that you want to accomplish in your life.

Green Aventurine

Green Aventurine is a variety of Quartz characterized by bright inclusions of Fuchsite particles or other minerals that give the stone it’s color. Metaphysically, this crystal carries a strong association to Earth, providing its wearer a better appreciation and understanding of nature. Green Aventurine is commonly used to increase opportunity, abundance, wealth and luck.

Green Agate

Green Agate, a variety of chalcedony, is formed by amorphous silica in thin layers of a different color. The primary metaphysical meaning of Green Agate always revolves around the concept of balance.  It enhances that connection between the mind, body, and soul to facilitate harmony in your day-to-day life. 

Green Onyx

Green Onyx is formed through the layering of Chalcedony and Quartz in a cryptocrystalline formation. Metaphysically, Green Onyx has the properties of discipline, protection, willpower and strength. It can also offer intense healing energies for the heart and emotional body.  The protective energies of Green Onyx are also known to repel negativity.

Green Opal

Green Opal is a type of common Opal that ranges in color from a pale ivory to a dark green. It's one of the easiest members of the Opal family to find with localities spread across 6 continents. Metaphysically, Green Opal is a stone that's all about the heart. This crystal is here to provide nourishing and rejuvenating energies to anyone struggling with emotional heartache.

Hematite

Hematite is a crystal made of iron oxide. The stone often looks like it is metallic because of the iron content and the shine that comes with that. Hematite means ‘blood stone’, and it’s spiritual meaning is to bring balance to both the etheric body and the physical body. Due to its magnetic nature and our ying-yang energies, it’s nature is to bring us back to equilibrium. Hematite is constantly pulling down excess energy from your environment to help you use it towards your best interests.

Howlite

Howlite consists of hydrous calcium borate and often creates nodules that look a lot like cauliflower heads. It’s often dyed green or blue to resemble turquoise. Howlite is a stone of awareness. It will give you the gift of wisdom and enlightenment. It can help you connect to higher realms and remove the veils that are blocking the truths in your life. Overall, Howlite’s meaning is all about calming patience and newfound perspective.

Iolite

Iolite is a gemstone of silicate mineral variety cordierite. It is made up of the chemical elements magnesium, iron, and aluminum. Iolite is known as cordierite (named after the French geologist Pierre Cordier who first studied it) in mineralogy. Known as the compass stone, Iolite is said to guide the wearer of the stone on a journey of self-discovery. Many believe that this gemstone aids them in unlocking their creativity and fulfilling their life purpose. 

Jade

There are two distinctive types of Jade which have different mineral compositions - Nephrite, which is rich in aluminum and is a pyroxene, and Jadeite, a magnesium-rich amphibole. Metaphysically, Jade has powerful, outward-flowing energies that promote healing, nurturing, replenishment, and emotional support that can help you tap into a higher love. This crystal has the ability to transform negative energies into positive ones that promote joyfulness and love.

Kambaba Jasper

Kambaba Jasper, also known as Crocodile Jasper, is a unique, green rhyolitic (volcanic) stone found in Madagascar. Metaphysically, Kambaba Jasper is a stone of peace, tranquility, and fertility. It reminds us of the gift of life and our connection to all living things of the present, past & future. Kambaba Jasper will encourage happiness and activate your ability to attract abundance and prosperity into your life.

Kiwi Jasper

Kiwi Jasper, also known as Kiwi Quartz and Sesame Jasper is the name given to a semi-translucent and spotted microcrystalline variety of Quartz. It is believed to be a combination of Amazonite, Tourmalines, and Quartz that exclusively comes out of New Zealand. Kiwi Jasper combines the communicative power of Amazonite with the grounding and protective qualities of Tourmaline. It's very beneficial to carry or wear Kiwi Jasper when drawing upon feelings that resonate deep within your heart. 

Kunzite

Kunzite is a composite of lithium, aluminum and silicate, which naturally forms in large sizes. The crystal structure displays distinct pleochroism, which means kunzite can appear to display two or three colors depending on the light source and orientation of the gem. Most typically, kunzite is a pale pinkish or lilac color, but can also be more vividly colored. According to metaphysical beliefs, kunzite is a stone deeply connected to the heart and love. A joyful stone, kunzite opens and connects the heart with the mind, encouraging communion between the two.

Kyanite

This attractive blue mineral often appears as large, well-formed bladed crystals, making it a popular material for gemological collectors and jewelry makers alike. Kyanite has an almost fibrous appearance, especially as stones are often left rough to prevent stone loss during polishing. Kyanite is strongly believed to facilitate meditation; some practitioners consider its meditative power to be one of its two defining features. The second is that they believe kyanite never needs to be cleansed of negative energies--because it cannot accumulate or retain them!

Labradorite

Lore of the Inuit people claims Labradorite fell from the frozen fire of the Aurora Borealis. Labradorite is a member of the Feldspar family and is treasured for its remarkable iridescence. Metaphysically, it enhances the mental and intuitive abilities of clairvoyance, telepathy, prophecy, and coincidence control, and assists in communication with higher guides and spirits. Overall, Labradorite is said to be a protective guardian, warding off negativity both externally and internally.

Lapis Lazuli

Lapis Lazuli is a rock formed by multiple minerals, mostly lazurite, sodalite, calcite, and pyrite, and is a rich medium to royal blue with gold flecks (pyrites). Metaphysically, Lapis Lazuli is a powerful crystal for activating the higher mind and enhancing intellectual ability. It stimulates the desire for knowledge, truth, and understanding, and aids the process of learning.

Larimar

Larimar is found in only one place in the world - one square kilometer in the Dominican Republic. Larimar is a volcanic stone, the result of volcanic activity that occurred millions of years ago. It’s a form of pectolite, and although pectolite is found in nearly every hemisphere, none have the unique volcanic blue coloration of Larimar. Metaphysically, Larimar is known as a crystal of serenity, promoting relaxation in every aspect.

Leopard Skin Jasper

Leopard Skin Jasper is a type of silicon dioxide that forms as a part of the volcanic process. Metaphysically, Leopard Skin Jasper helps to join or unify all aspects of your life. It creates an awareness of helping other people. It has a strong ability to absorb negative energy, and because of its balancing powers, it is able to balance yin yang and align the body with the mind and the spirit. It can also boost your ability to understand animals.

Lepidolite

Lepidolite is a lithium-aluminum potassium mineral and one of the most commonly found members of the Mica family. It naturally contains lithium, which is used in anti-anxiety medication and is known to rebalance emotions. This allows Lepidolite to help you manage feelings of anxiety, stress, and other emotions. 

Lodolite/Garden Quartz

Lodolite Quartz is also known as Garden Quartz, Scenic Quartz, and Landscape Quartz. It is a type of quartz that contains inclusions of other minerals, which can give it a variety of colors and patterns. Lodolite Quartz is an excellent stone for meditation and healing work. It can help to quiet the mind and allow you to enter into a deeper state of relaxation and awareness.

Mahogany Obsidian

Mahogany Obsidian is a type of Obsidian with Hematite or Magnetite inclusions within, giving it its red, brownish color. Obsidian is a type of naturally occurring volcanic glass formed as an extrusive igneous rock. Obsidian is a powerful grounding stone that's commonly known to give wearers the strength needed to stand on their own convictions against any enemy, protecting its owners. Many use it in times of need, to remove energy blocks and give new life to purposes and goals. 

Malachite

Malachite belongs to a family of copper carbonate hydroxide minerals. Metaphysically, it is known as a stone of change. Malachite is a protection stone, absorbing negative energies and pollutants from the atmosphere and from the body. Malachite offers the willpower to confront and get past any emotional and physical blockage happening in your current life.

Maw-Sit-Sit

Maw Sit Sit is a rare gemstone found exclusively in northern Myanmar (Burma). It is sometimes referred to as "Jade-Albite" or "Chrome Jade" due to its bright green colour and high chromium content. First identified in 1963, Maw Sit Sit was named after the village close to where it was first found in the foothills of the Himalayas. Maw Sit Sit's metaphysical properties center around the heart chakra, strengthening our connection to both the physical and spiritual dimensions. It draws energy into the heart, assisting us to open our heart to experience greater joy and positivity.

Moldavite

Moldavite is a rare tektite, formed when a meteorite struck the earth and the heat of the impact metamorphosed surrounding rocks. Moldavite fuses extraterrestrial energies with Mother Earth and takes you beyond your limits & boundaries. It is a stone of rapid transformation, putting you on the fastest route to your life’s purpose. 

Mookaite Jasper

The Mookaite jasper is described as opalite, chalcedony or chert, or a combination of the three, varying only with the degree of silica. It is found only in Australia. This stone is said to promote an ageless spirit that is willing to accept changes and seeking new adventures and experiences. Mookaite can help in awakening your natural instincts and in knowing which direction to take.

Moss Agate

Moss Agate is described as a neutral and transparent dendritic agate but technically is a type of chalcedony. Metaphysically, Moss Agate works to calm and soothe and help you get along with the world above your head and below your feet. The stone has a grounding and strengthening effect since it is vibrating at a slower frequency and lower intensity. Moss agate also carries the energies of prosperity, success and wealth as well as endurance and persistence.

Mexican Fire Opal

Fire Opals are mineraloids, meaning they look like minerals but don’t have crystal structure or consistent composition. Mexican Fire Opal’s spiritual meaning was sacred to ancient Aztec and Mayan cultures. It symbolizes pure inner joy, along with luck, success, and passion. Fire Opals can help improve confidence and passion. In relationships, the stone is said to heal heartbreak and strengthen hope for new love. The gem is also used for greater emotional expression, willpower, and peace.

 

Oco Agate

Oco Agate belongs to the Quartz family and comes in almost any color you can think of. Metaphysically, Oco Agate is the all around balancing stone. With its low frequency and gentle vibrations, it is the ideal stone for when we need to slow down. It can help one work through emotional trauma and feelings of uneasiness with strength. Oco Agate is also a great stone to amplify the energies within us and stimulate creativity.

Ocean Jasper

Ocean Jasper is a rare stone only mined in one place in the world, northwestern Madagascar. Although commonly described as an orbicular jasper, the most recent research suggests it is the mineral chalcedony instead. Metaphysically, it is said to help with uplifting feelings, going with the flow, and processing emotional trauma. Ocean Jasper is also an excellent crystal for coping with change and cultivating patience.

Obsidian

The Obsidian crystal is often called volcanic glass because it is formed from molten lava that has cooled very quickly. Metaphysically, it is known as a powerful protection stone which helps you identify your dark shadow side so that its healing properties can clear it away from your psyche. Obsidian is well suited to a variety of intentions ranging from protecting your spirit to deeper energetic healing and self-discovery.

Orbicular Jasper

Orbicular Jasper is a variety of jasper which contains variably-colored orbs or spherical inclusions or zones. Metaphysically, Orbicular Jasper is said to have gently encouraging and nurturing energy. It is also believed to hold healing properties that increase our excitement and gratitude for the “little things” in life.

Peridot

Peridot is one of only two gems (diamond is the other) formed not in the Earth’s crust, but in molten rock of the upper mantle and brought to the surface by the tremendous forces of earthquakes and volcanoes. Peridot is highly beneficial for attuning to and regulating the cycles of one’s life, such as physical cycles, mental or emotional phases, as well as intellectual progression. It is also known to increase mental focus by making the mind more receptive to learning new things.

Petrified Wood

From the Latin word petro, meaning "rock" or "stone", the name petrified wood translates to "wood turned to stone." During the process of petrification, plant debris is covered with sediment material. This sediment protects the debris from decaying under environmental stressors such as oxygen, rain-water, animals, bacteria, etc. Over time, the build-up of sedimentary material begins to harden around the plant material. Eventually, ground water that is saturated in dissolved rock material flows through the sediment and the plant material is replaced with minerals such as silicate. This process creates a fossilization of the wooden material at the microscopic level and mineral replacement resulting in the appearance of wood, tree rings, and other recognizable wood features known as petrified wood. It is thought to promote balance and calmness, allowing the body to heal in a relaxed, de-stressed environment. As a product of once living material, the gemstone is often viewed as a sacred representation of humankind's connection to the universe. 

Picture Jasper

Picture Jasper is a form of chalcedony or microcrystalline quartz formed through the hydrothermal process. Metaphysically, Picture Jasper is a grounding stone, and one that is so deeply connected with the earth and ancient times it is thought to help give us a glimpse into the distant past. It encourages mind stillness and inner silence, giving one time for deep, introspective thought.

Pink Opal

Pink opal is a natural type of common opal that often contains palygorskite and chalcedony. Palygorskite is a phyllosilicate that resembles opal, while chalcedony is a microcrystalline quartz mineral. Pink opal is one of the rarer opal colors, as only a few nations produce the gemstone - including Peru, Mexica, the US, and Australia. As an opal gemstone, pink opal inherently symbolizes protection. Along with other pink gemstones, pink opal represents love, gentleness, and healing, and being kind to yourself.

Peach Moonstone

Peach Moonstone is actually a form of potassium aluminum silicate feldspar. The metaphysical meaning of Peach Moonstone is all about acceptance, goodness, creativity, and loving energy. It can help you to keep a calm head in stressful situations. The Peach Moonstone crystal is also known to help the user connect to the feminine energy of the moon, thereby opening up possibilities of love, sensuality, and better relationships.

Pearl

Pearls are one of a few natural or organic gemstones (others include coral, amber, jet and mother-of-pearl). Produced by the pearl oyster and the freshwater pearl mussel, natural pearls are a small irritant within the oyster or mussel which has been coated with nacre to reduce that irritation.
